There are certain settings in Internet Explorer that can improve its performance, avoid problems and make entering data much more efficient. Details on each setting are provided below.<\/p>\n The AutoComplete feature helps you enter data on web pages faster. As you start typing into a text field, the browser shows a list of values you’ve already entered into that field that start with the characters you’ve just typed. You can continue to type, or select an item from the list (using the arrow keys or the mouse). Hint: you can delete items from the list when they’re highlighted by pressing the\u00a0Delete<\/em>\u00a0key. Turn Auto Complete on by choosing\u00a0Internet Options<\/em>\u00a0on the\u00a0Tools<\/em>\u00a0menu, click on the\u00a0Content<\/em>\u00a0tab, and click the\u00a0AutoComplete\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0button. Then place a check next to\u00a0Forms<\/em>\u00a0in the\u00a0Use AutoComplete<\/em>\u00a0for section, and click\u00a0OK<\/em>. Note: If you check\u00a0User names and passwords<\/em>\u00a0on\u00a0Forms<\/em>\u00a0Internet Explorer will also remember your passwords and fill them in on the appropriate pages. You must decide if this is a good idea or not, you may not want to turn this on if many people share the same computer.<\/p>\n For full functionality we require JavaScript support to be turned on in your browser (it typically is already). Choose\u00a0Internet Options<\/em>on the\u00a0Tools<\/em>\u00a0menu, click on the\u00a0Security<\/em>\u00a0tab, and click the\u00a0Custom Level<\/em>\u00a0button. In the\u00a0Security Settings<\/em>\u00a0dialog that opens, scroll down towards the end of the list and look for the\u00a0Active scripting<\/em>\u00a0setting in the\u00a0Scripting<\/em>\u00a0section. It should be enabled, if not click next to\u00a0Enable<\/em>\u00a0and then click\u00a0OK<\/em>.<\/p>\n To log in successfully your browser must be configured to use SSL (a secure connection – notice the padlock at the bottom of the window when logging in). This keeps your user name and password secure. Typically the correct settings are turned on by default. To verify, choose\u00a0Internet Options<\/em>\u00a0on the\u00a0Tools<\/em>\u00a0menu, click on the\u00a0Advanced<\/em>\u00a0tab, and scroll down until the\u00a0Security<\/em>\u00a0section appears. Make sure the\u00a0Use SSL 2.0<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Use SSL 3.0<\/em>\u00a0settings are checked. Click\u00a0OK<\/em>\u00a0when you’re done.<\/p>\n To obtain the best performance when downloading web pages your browser should be configured to use HTTP 1.1. This allows our web server to compress the web pages, making them significantly smaller and thus faster to download. To check this setting, choose\u00a0Internet Options<\/em>\u00a0on the\u00a0Tools<\/em>\u00a0menu, click on the\u00a0Advanced<\/em>\u00a0tab, and scroll down until the\u00a0HTTP 1.1 Settings<\/em>\u00a0section appears. Make sure the\u00a0Use HTTP 1.1<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections<\/em>\u00a0settings are checked.
